The Bureau of Spontaneous Choreography exists to observe a single small figure each time it is prompted to dance, and to certify the resulting performance using instruments only the Bureau can see.
Every performance generates its own Performance Number, its own Style, its own Duration, and its own permanent entry in the figure's climbing Brevity Rating.
Each case records a Style and a Duration, regardless of how enthusiastically the figure actually moved, how many times it has already danced today, or whether any of this qualifies as choreography in any recognized sense.
Durations are measured within tolerances the Bureau considers scientifically unimpeachable. There is no stage. There is no Bureau.
Every figure begins at Noted. Each performance raises the rating by an amount the Bureau declines to justify.
The rating has never gone down during a single recorded session, regardless of how long any individual dance ran.
As of the most recent internal review, the figure is cleared to dance for any duration between 0.5 and 1.6 seconds under standard operating conditions. Longer durations remain under advisement and will not be discussed further.
